“Roaches in My Cereal” Coming January 13 Explores School Equity and Belonging

I am so excited to share that my book, Roaches in My Cereal: And the Moral Imperative to Reimagine School, will be released on January 13, 2026.

This book began as a personal reflection on childhood experiences shaped by poverty, trauma, and moments of invisibility—but it grew into something much larger. It became an exploration of how schools shape belonging, identity, and opportunity, and how the presence (or absence) of belief, consistency, and high expectations can change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Roaches in My Cereal is written for educators, school leaders, policymakers, parents, and anyone who cares deeply about children and the systems that serve them. It asks us to look honestly at how schools can unintentionally mirror societal inequities—or intentionally become spaces of dignity, healing, and possibility. It challenges us to pair compassion with rigor, understanding with expectation, and care with courage.

My hope is that this book sparks conversation, reflection, and action in classrooms, school buildings, and communities everywhere. The work of reimagining school is not abstract—it’s urgent, human, and deeply moral.

More to come as we approach the release. I’m grateful for the many educators, mentors, and students who shaped this journey—and for those committed to building schools where every child is truly seen.
