Dr. Melvin J. Brown is an executive leader, strategist, and organizational development consultant with deep experience driving system-level transformation, operational improvement, and scalable impact across large, complex institutions. With more than two decades leading organizations through change, he is recognized for his ability to strengthen culture, align teams to vision, develop talent pipelines, and build systems that accelerate performance and outcomes.
Dr. Brown currently serves as Superintendent in Residence for Defined, LLC, where he partners with executives to design career-connected workforce development ecosystems that bridge education, business, and community needs. His work centers on building sustainable capacity, improving cross-functional alignment, and helping leaders implement strategies that support economic growth, workforce readiness, and long-term organizational resilience.
As President & CEO of Soul Vision, LLC, Dr. Brown leads a consulting and leadership development practice specializing in equity-centered culture building, executive coaching, strategic planning, and change leadership. He supports nonprofits, corporations, schools and school districts, and public agencies in strengthening leadership pipelines, improving team effectiveness, and cultivating environments where people thrive and organizational goals are met with clarity and accountability.
Previously, Dr. Brown served as Superintendent for Montgomery Public Schools (AL) and Reynoldsburg City Schools (OH), overseeing multi-million-dollar operations, leading large cross-disciplinary teams, managing labor relations, and executing long-range strategic plans. His leadership resulted in measurable improvements in organizational performance, stakeholder engagement, fiscal management, and community trust. He has also held other executive roles in Ohio and Virginia, and served as Vice President for Client & Partner Engagement at Bailey Education Group.
Dr. Brown holds a Doctorate in Educational Studies from The Ohio State University, a Master’s in Educational Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Bachelor’s in English from James Madison University. He is Co-Author of STEM Century and recipient of the 2024 Dwight D. Jones Courageous Leader Award.
